Amtrak RailAgent - eTicketing has Arrived

Amtrak RailAgent - eTicketing has Arrived

Amtrak is happy to announce that starting September 27, 2013 eTicketing will be available for sales completed in the Amtrak RailAgent family of sites!

-- Amtrak RailAgent
-- Amtrak RailAgent for International Tour Operators
-- Amtrak RailAgent for Vacation.com
-- Amtrak RailAgent for Amadeus

eTicketing will simplify the ticketing process and enhance your customer’s experience with Amtrak – no more visits to Quik-Trak or a ticket clerk when an eTicket has been delivered. Amtrak will deliver an email receipt for all purchases. Attached to the receipt will be a PDF document containing the Amtrak eTickets.

To board the train, the client prints out the eTicket anywhere — at home, work or a hotel business center and brings it along with proper identification. Present the eTicket to the conductor and that is it. And if your client’s laptop, smartphone or tablet device can receive e-mail and open a PDF document, they can retrieve the eTicket on their device and present it on the screen to the conductor without printing it out.

eTicketing is not available when itineraries include Thruway Connecting Bus Service (with the exception of select California Thruway bus routes.) Restrictions also apply to ferry services, interline services such as NJ Transit and cross border itineraries into Canada on the Maple Leaf route.

Travel Agent Commissions

 Travel Agent Commissions

Effective November 1, 2013, Amtrak will pay base commission only to Travel Agencies in Amtrak National Account Program. The Amtrak National accounts include:

-- AAA Travel Agencies
-- Vacation.com

Reservations for any of our long-distance (leisure) trains that are ticketed by a National Account Partner Travel Agency through an approved booking channel (i.e. GDS’s Apollo, Sabre and Worldspan, or the Amtrak RailAgent online booking tools) are commissionable. National Account Partner Travel Agencies will receive base commissions as previously negotiated on Long Distance Amtrak trains. View commissionable services.

In addition, all Amtrak appointed travel agencies (National and Non-National) can earn 8-10 percent commission on Amtrak Vacations packages and group tickets.

If you are a member of an Amtrak National Account, please contact your National Account Headquarters for specific details. For information on group sales, please contact Amtrak Group Sales at 1-800-872-1477. For information on Amtrak Vacations packages please contact 1-866-326-8725.

Reservations made on Amtrak.com are not eligible for commission.

Commission Payments

GDS
National Account Partner Travel Agencies using Apollo, Sabre or Worldspan receive their commission payments via the ARC weekly IAR Sales Report process.

Amtrak RailAgent Sites
National Account Partner Travel Agencies using any of the RailAgent sites (Amadeus, International, Tour and Vacation.com) receive commission payments electronically through PayPal. Commission payments are processed approximately three months after the reservation was created.

Please be sure your Agency’s manager/owner has submitted the PayPal account information to Amtrak Travel Industry Programs support. Log into Amtrak RailAgent and Select My Commissions.

Policy Update: eVouchers

Amtrak eVouchers - Your Travel Credits Stored Electronically

Amtrak is offering a new form of payment - eVoucher (electronic voucher) to store passengers' remaining fare value. Paper exchange and refund vouchers already issued remain valid for customers to use through their expiration dates.

What are eVouchers?
Different from paper exchange and refund vouchers that hold value in paper, eVouchers store your ticket value electronically in our reservation and ticketing system. You will no longer have to keep track of paper value exchange and refund vouchers that might be misplaced or lost.

Under certain conditions following a fare downgrade or cancellation of a purchased trip, our system will automatically transfer funds owed to a customer into an eVoucher. Depending on the fare rules and policies that applied to the original ticket purchase, the funds in an eVoucher can be

Refundable: returned in cash (at stations only) as a refund check (through an Amtrak Refund office only) or credit back to the credit card used to pay for the original ticket. There will be a 10% refund fee if the return of a paper value ticket created the eVoucher.

Non-refundable: used in exchange to pay for future travel.
A Combination of refundable and non-refundable amounts.
